AJ managed to squeak out a couple tenths on Noah at the last minute, and Aaron snuck in there when I wasn’t looking. So that’s a bit of an upset.

Since AJ was last month’s winner, prizes go to Aaron, Noah and Jerry. Nice to have a father-son duo on the podium.

It was a challenging, technical combo that rewarded patience on the throttle, good trail-braking technique, and aggressive use of the curbing in the final section. The track is relatively flat, but the surface detail really highlights our motion platform for those who tried it. Because the track was washboarded in some places, we think that most people were slightly faster in the static rigs, since the shaking makes precision difficult.

November 2 Announcement

Each contestant is given one (and only one) 15 minute session to attempt to qualify for the challenge. You are encouraged to practice as much as you want, but you must declare your Challenge session (in advance) to claim the prize!

  • Circuit: Umbria Circuit
  • Car: Lotus 3-Eleven

As a reminder, the Grand Prize is a one-month Unlimited membership! Everyone who purchases a simulator session is eligible to participate, which means that the October winner is not eligible. The winner of the Grand Opening challenge is eligible this month though, so there will be some competition!

November 20 Update

There’s still two weeks to go in the November Hotlap Challenge. Practice is allowed this month, so come in and work on that lap time. It’s proven to be a challenging car and track combination, and so some practice is actually recommended.

My advice, for those who haven’t yet laid down their official times:

  • Roll on the throttle gently. Aggressive throttle application will overwhelm the rear tires.
  • Start with a very early brake application — 50 - 100 feet earlier than what might feel natural.
  • The initial brake application should be light: 1 - 5% of max, but gradually increase the pressure.
  • A little bit of trail braking seems to help with the tighter corners.
  • The track is washboarded in a couple places, particularly at the end of the long back straight, so watch your entry speed.
